Handling a Losing streak
Every trader has a losing streak once in a while. It is a part of trading that cannot be avoided. The key is knowing what to do when you start getting bad trades.
If you are having a losing streak you should use it to learn from your mistakes. There has to be a reason for having such a large number of losses. It is important to try and figure out what the reason could be.
Try to look at how you are trading and see what you might be doing wrong. Are you exiting your winners too early? Are you getting stopped out too soon? Letting your losses get too big? Figure it out and adjust your system.
Another thing you can do is scale back. Try and make fewer trades or have each trade take up less of your account. Getting stricter money management rules may also help. It is not fun having a string of bad trades so you should keep your losses to a minimum during this time, while continuing to let your winners ride. Capitol preservation is the key.
Getting pickier with your trades can also help. You may want to only take trades that have everything on your side, good fundamentals, good technicals, good industry group, ect. (Maybe check to see if the planets align). It is better to take less risk during bad times and save the higher risk stuff for your winning streaks.
Finally, dont worry so much. Life is great take a break. Go do something you enjoy and have some fun. Forget about trading for a while. Spending all of your time worrying about what the stock market is doing can be a very stressful lifestyle.
Getting stressed out isnt going to help but clearing your mind will. It is important to remember losing streaks pass in time. What is important is keeping a positive attitude and keeping your losses small, especially during bad times.
