Is the market price the same thing as the last price?

by Alexander
(California)

I was wondering if the market price is the same thing as the last price or if it is the bid price or something completely different? Thanks.

Yes, when traders talk about the market price they are talking about the last price, not the bid or the ask. Now, if you place a market order the last price isn’t necessarily the price that you will get into. It is simply the price that the last transaction took place at, it may go up or down from there.
