If I Buy a Stock For $20 and Sell it For $40

If I purchase a stock for 20 one day and it jumps to 40 the next, if i were to sell would that put my account at 40? or how does it work?

Yes, say you buy 100 shares of a stock for $20 it would cost you $2000. If you sold those shares of stock at $40 a share later on you would have $4000. So you would literally double your money minus any expenses your broker will charge to buy and sell those shares, which should only be about $10-$30 total depending on your broker.
