Hello, Anthony

I wish I started to invest at age 16. The stock market can be a very powerful place to grow your money and the younger you start the more potential you will have.

First of all Stocks vs. CDs, I?m not a big fan of CDs because banks pretty much take your money, invest it into things like the stock market to make large returns, and then pay you a small return for letting them do that.

Second, stocks allow you to invest into companies. So if you buy McDonald stock (MCD) you own a percentage of McDonald?s company. As the company grow so does your stock.

Before you can buy stocks you have to open up a brokerage account. But because you are so young you would have to open up a Custodian Account which is basically an account your parents control and gift it to you once you turn 18-21 depending on the state. Here is more information on that.

Can Teenagers Invest In The Stock Market?

As far as investing goes, that kind of depends on what you want to do. The easiest way to start is to buy ETFs. These basically track a large number of stocks. Some even track the stock market indexes, so buying them is as good as buying stock in the largest companies in America.

That is the easiest and safest way to invest in the long term. But if you want to start actively managing your account at one point to attempt to make a higher return that is a different story.
Here are a few articles I have written on that explaining some of the basics, but it will take some time and effort to get the hang of.

Good luck with all your investing.
