Asking price lower than actual trading price?

I have had my 450 shares of stock listed to sell at 98 cents all day with no success. However, the stock has traded higher than 98 cents multiple times. Why is my stock not selling?

What kind of order did you use? Did you use a limit order or a stop limit order? A limit order should have gotten you out as soon as the stock was at $.98 or higher. A stop limt would have only gotten you out if the stock came down to $.98 and stayed there for a long enough time period to fill the order.

Another possibility is that there was simply not enough trading volume in the stock. Brokers have to match all selling orders with buying orders.
If there were simply not enough buyers then you had no one to sell it too.

You could check the trading volume to see how many transactions are done in an average day. It should be well in the 50,000s or higher at least. That would make it easier to get in or out of the stock.

You could always place a market order to make sure that you exit regardless of the position.

But if there are no buyers then the stock price would just go down to meet the buyers. If a market order doesn't get your order sold I don't know what to tell you. Call your broker and figure it out. Or comment and post more info to see if I can help.
