Unemployment during the Great Depression

Unemployment during the Great Depression reached its highest rate ever in the U.S. and many other countries around the world. To give you some idea of how big the change was, in the U.S. unemployment was 8 times higher in 1932 than in 1929.

Here are some statistics on Unemployment in the Great Depression during different years in the U.S.

1929 = 3.3%

1930 = 8.7%

1931 = 15.9%

1932 = 24.9%

1934 = 21.7%

1941 = 9.9%

1942 = 4.7%

Australia = 29%

Canada = 27%

UK = 27% (Reaching as high as 70% in some areas)

Germany = 30%
